The industrial production index (IPI) strongly moderated its collapse in March to a negative 0.6%, while in February fell by 6.9% in calendar effect adjusted terms. That is, the difference in the number of working days in a month in different years. The meager cut of 0.6% is the best figure in the last 19 months.
The March data arrives, however, a little late. The same National Statistics has published the IPI has already advanced the balance of GDP in the first quarter. As a preview, the Spanish economy fall rtimo moderated to 0.5% in the first quarter from the end of 2012, three tenths less than in the previous period.
By the use of the goods, the fall in activity focused on durable goods and intermediate (those who in turn will be used to make other products). According to INE, fell by 5.6% and 4.5% in March compared to the same quarter of 2012. By contrast, production of capital goods and power grew, both 3.3%.
For communities, the IPI falls in all of them, except in Extremadura. Where else fell was in Madrid, with a 20% cut but without correcting the calendar effect, which in March 2013 is important because Easter fell this month, not in 2012. The Spanish media was 9.8% in these same terms.
