The Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism announced on Tuesday that will revoke the allocation of quotas to domestic biodiesel production, a measure passed in April to protect the EU production of this product and limit imports from Argentina and Indonesia. The department led by José Manuel Soria argues that the allocation of quotas for the production of biodiesel can have a negative impact on fuel prices.
This order was passed less than a week after the government of Argentina announced its intention to expropriate 51% of Repsol YPF. The Deputy Prime Minister, Soraya Saenz de Santamaria, enrolled as Madrid's actions against the government's decision of Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.
Industry argues that the application of quotas "can have a negative impact on the prices of motor fuels at a time like this, in which they reach record highs."
Following the adoption of the standard national biodiesel protection, the Government had a period of six months to publish the allocation of quotas to EU producers. This term would end on 22 October and the industry was waiting for the resolution.
Those affected now have one month to submit an administrative appeal to Industry reset, or two months in case they want to appeal the decision of the Government before an administrative tribunal.
The protective order aimed biodiesel operations support this biofuel refining by Spanish companies and community by allocating quotas and limit imports of Argentine biodiesel, whose value amounted last year to 750 million euros. In 2011, Spain bought 719,473 tonnes of biofuel Argentina, nearly half of the 1.6 million tons consumed.
