Unemployment in the eurozone and the European Union set a new record in August, a drama that affects more than 18,000 people in the region, at a time when large sections of the population are taking to the streets to answer stranded austerity policies of the governments, both in Spain, Greece, Portugal and France. Given the continued deterioration of the labor market, the European Union warned Monday that the risk of causing an end stop "economic and social disaster". For this reason, Brussels has called for a joint effort ralizar, especially with regard to youth unemployment.
The monetary union unemployment stood at 11.4% of the working population in the eighth month of the year, with a slight increase compared with July, the results were revised upwards, as reported on Monday EU statistics office, Eurostat. On the set of the Twenty, the unemployment rate was 10.5%, unchanged from July.
