Exports from Spain grew by 4% between January and February compared with the same period of 2013 , which amounted to EUR 37.759 million and marked a new high since records began ( 1971). In real terms , the variation was 5.3 % , to account for a 1.2% decline in export prices measured by the Securities Indices Unitarians ( UTI ) .
Imports , meanwhile , increased by 3 % to February and totaled 42,200.3 million euros, higher than those recorded in 2012 and 2013 rate . In real terms , the growth was 8.5 % after prices fall sharply approximate by UTI , 5% compared to February 2013.
With this trend in imports , the trade deficit amounted to 4,440 million euros as of February , which represents a decrease of 5.2 % over the same period last year , as reported Wednesday by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness .

In the first two months of the year highlighted the 6.1% increase in exports to the European Union , a figure significantly higher than in the same period of 2013 (1.5 %), particularly by improving the economic situation of the EU countries .
This increase also moved the weight of intra-EU exports , which reached 64.6 % compared to 63.3 % in the same period last year. The same behavior in the euro area is observed , with an increase of 5.5 % and the rest of the European Union , with a growth of 8.2 % yoy.
As for exports to non-EU destinations , increased by 0.4 % yoy and accounted for 35.4% of the total. He highlighted the 13.4% growth in exports to Asia ( excluding Middle East ), in particular by increasing sales to the largest economies in the region : Japan ( +45.3 %) , South Korea ( +46 , 7%) and China ( +14.0 %). For its part, continues the revival of exports to the United States ( +19.9 %) , depleted during 2013 .
In terms of contribution to the rate of change of total exports , the main worldwide destinations were the United Kingdom ( 0.8 points explained increased exports ), Portugal ( 0.8 points ), United States (0, 7 points) and Germany ( 0.5 points) .
From a sectoral perspective , the main contributions to growth came from exports of food, beverages and snuff ( explained 1.3 points ) , consumer manufactures ( 0.8 points ), race ( 0.8 points) , non-chemical semi ( 0.7 points) and capital goods ( 0.4 points) .
The most dynamic and largest contribution to export growth subsectors were other foods ( 0.8 points) , electrical appliances ( 0.6 points) , non-ferrous metals ( 0.5 points) , automotive components , clothing and vehicles transport of goods by road ( 0.4 points each) .
With regard to imports , in the first two months of the year highlighted the progress of foreign purchases of automobile sector ( contribution of 2.2 points ) , equally distributed between cars and motorcycles and automotive components . Also highlighted the goods ( 1.5 points) , including general-purpose machinery ( 0.4 points) and appliances ( 0.4 points) .
According to the Ministry of Economy, the latter data are in line with the return on investment in the Spanish economy and the increase in industrial production in the first two months of the year .
For communities which reported better export figures were Castilla y León (an increase of 17% ) , Basque Country ( +10.8 %) , Ontario ( +4.9 % ); Valencian (+4.2 % ) and Catalonia (+2.2 %).
In any case , the overall export growth (4 %) exceeds the export performance of Germany ( +3.8 %) and the UK and France, which reflected declines of 1.2% and 0.3 % respectively . In the euro area , exports advanced 1.4% and the European Union , 1.6% .
In the month of February, the trade balance recorded a deficit of 1,622.2 million euros. Spanish exports of goods rose 4.9 % , while imports amounted to 20947.6 million euros, up 6.9% . The coverage rate stood at 92.3 %, 1.7 points below the figure for February 2013.
