The underground economy has increased by 60,000 million euros over the crisis to stand at 24.6 % of GDP at end- 2012 , representing 253,135,000 euros hidden , according to the study released today by the Technical Ministry of Finance ( Gestha ) .
The study was led by Professor of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili Jordi Sarda , who has participated in the presentation along with the president of Gestha , Carlos Cruzado, and the secretary general of the association, José María Mollinedo .
The report attributed the increase of the shadow economy to drag effect "boom" property , the " dramatic " increase in unemployment and the "massive" use of 500 euro .
To this study adds "serious moral problem with paying taxes," which places Spain far from the levels of shadow economy in countries such as Germany (13.1% ), France ( 10.8%) or United Kingdom ( 10.1%) , while in Italy , Portugal and Greece are higher.
The largest increase in fraud has occurred in the hardest hit by the " brick crisis " and unemployment, as Andalucía, Castilla -La Mancha , Extremadura , Canary Islands and the Spanish Levant regions.
The document highlights the case of the Community of Madrid with a rate of " strikingly low " of 17.3 % of GDP , the underground economy which attributed to the high concentration of great wealth and large domestic and foreign companies, which pay taxes for their activities in the community, while much of their business is generated in other communities .
