Research on the presence of offshore companies from leading Chinese family communist leaders , who today begins publishing COUNTRY along with other media, is the result of a leak to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ , its acronym in English ) . This non-profit center and headquartered in Washington, obtained from sources that remain anonymous two databases with nearly 30 years of activity record companies Portcullis Trustnet (Singapore) and Commonwealth Trust Limited ( British Virgin Islands) . Both companies are specialized managers in creating financial structures in tax havens.
The filter contains 2.5 million files with the secrets than 100,000 companies based in these shelters. Latest records correspond to early 2010. A first wave of corporate data , focusing on firms linked to Western countries, was published last year and uncovered numerous cases of hidden money from politicians and tycoons, including reaching the campaign treasurer of François Hollande.
Now come to light records related to citizens of China, Taiwan and Hong Kong , representing 37,000 names, about a third of the total. The ICIJ make public in its database all the names at midnight from Thursday to Friday , CET Spanish .
