Sales abroad have returned in 2013 to rescue the activity of the food industry to stagnant consumption in the internal market , both at home and especially in the restoration. The sector and managed to keep virtually billing levels , with a slight decrease of 1 % , and employment fell by only 0.2 % over 2012.
Agri-food exports have strengthened in recent years as one of the main engines of global sales outside Spain , with sustained growth of almost 10 %. Specifically , a total turnover of 89.204 million euros , 28.5 % corresponds to the foreign market. This breakthrough led to approach the levels of Italy and trim differences on French exports , leading to more than 40,000 million.
In 2013 the Spanish overseas sales continued to shape positive behavior , although the growth rate eased to 5.3% . This slowdown is a result of stagnating sales in all EU countries , with a fall in transactions with Russia, where for several months were closed borders to meat . It has also slowed down in Asian markets , which increases from previous years, between 20 % and 30 % , have dropped to 10% .
The most important productions in overseas markets are specified in meat , especially pork , oils and wines.
Despite the decline in the overall turnover of 2013 , estimates of the Federation of Food and Drink Industries (IFLA ) point to a production in December by 5.05 % over the same period in 2012. For the CEO of REL , Time González , these figures assume that you have begun to see the beginning of the recovery in the sector making it possible to be optimistic about this year. Since agricultural production to industry and large retailers are concerned that a rise in VAT to end this process of improvement and tomorrow the government will raise its opposition to a move in that direction.
