The service sector in June recorded a fall in sales of 5.2% over the same month of 2011, bringing its ten-month and year declines, according to provisional data released Thursday by the National Statistics Institute (INE ). The June annual decline has moderated in two tenths than in May, when the sector's turnover fell by 5.4%
Fixed calendar effect, billing services experienced in June a year drop of 5%, eight tenths above the May (-5.8%). INE data show that employment in the service sector in June recorded a decrease of 3% annual rate, matching the decline experienced in May, bringing employment in this sector chains and thirteen months of consecutive declines.
In the first six months of the year, sales of services contracted by 4.7% over the same period of 2011, while employment in the sector fell by 2.5%.
The wholesale and sale and repair of vehicles and motocicetas were the sectors that recorded a higher negative impact on the revenues of the service sector in June, with declines of 5.2% and 17.9%, respectively . The sharpest falls in employment is the recorded sale and repair of motor vehicles (-5.2%), the administrative and support service activities (-4.9%) and transport and storage (-3.6%). In wholesale trade occupation fell 3.2%, while in the retailer fell 1.2%.
The services sector's turnover declined in all regions. The biggest declines were the noted Castilla-La Mancha (-8.9%), Extremadura (-8.4%) and Basque Country (-8.1%) and the lowest were for Galicia (-1.9%), La Rioja (-2%) and Valencia (-3%). Regarding employment, the personnel employed declined in all communities, with the largest declines the Castilla-La Mancha (-4.7%) and Extremadura and Navarre (-3.6% in both cases).
