German prosecutors in the city of Bochum, in the west of the country, has unearthed tax evasion with undeclared cash deposits of 2,900 million euros of German investors in Swiss bank UBS institute. The newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung today revealed that the said prosecution has discovered a "massive tax fraud" to evaluate the contents of a data CD with German clients of UBS, including 750 and 550 private foundations.
Only foundations defrauded the German government 204 million euros in taxes, the paper, in which the head of the German Tax Union, Thomas Eigenthaler says that according to his calculations, foundations and German citizens have deposited in Switzerland about 150,000 million euros of black money. Also remember that the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, where Bochum is, consistently since 2007 purchase data carriers with information in Switzerland German fraudsters, usually unidentified whistleblowers working in Swiss banking institutes.
The paper reveals that the Government of North Rhine-Westphalia has acquired in recent months four CDs that 3.5 million reported for the fiscal recovery of 1,300 million
He adds that since these practices were initiated by prosecutors to track down fraudsters more than 40,000 have been affected autodenunciado in Germany to avoid major punishment by justice. The paper reveals that the Government has undertaken in recent months four CDs for 3.5 million euros, but would have been reported for the fiscal recovery of 1,300 million euros in taxes disappointed.
Eigenthaler requires the total elimination of bank secrecy in Switzerland that, in his view, not only invites the tax fraud, but serves to launder money from criminal activities such as trafficking in drugs, arms and people. The new case around UBS comes just weeks after the Bundesrat, or upper house of the German Lander, rejected the ratification of tax treaty signed between Germany and Switzerland.
The tax agreement stipulated that the black money deposited in Swiss German citizens were taxed at a flat tax of between 21% and 41%, money that was to be transferred to the German tax authorities anonymously and with ten years retroactively. Also contemplated that, as of 2013, deposits in Swiss German citizens have at least the same tax burdens that befall them if they stayed at home.
Had it been adopted, the tax treaty between Germany and Switzerland could have reported to the German tax annual additional income from 2013 to 10,000 million euros. The German Länder suggest, however, that the tax treaty between Germany and Switzerland is insufficient to tackle fraud and, as in the case of North Rhine-Westphalia, estimate that fraudsters hunting with the help of data reported by unorthodox methods are more productive and better serve as a warning.
