The price rise comes after the Ministry of Finance has raised the excise duty levied on the consumption of snuff on Tuesday, setting a double minimum tax, so that the packs of 20 cigarettes sold by below 3.77 euros will be taxed at a higher tax. For the sting, the minimum tax is now set to 85 euros per kilogram and increased to 92 euros when the bite has a retail price of less than 138 euros per kilogram.
In the first half of 2012, cigarette sales fell by 9.73%, while 23% went off the bite of cigars and pipe, and a rolling 14%, according to data from the Tobacco Market Commissioner .
