The European Commission has punished severely by seven price-fixing tech giants. Competition imposes LG, Philips, Samsung, Panasonic, MTPD (now a subsidiary of Panasonic), Toshiba and Technicolor a total fine of 1,470 million euros, as this department has applied to form a cartel. For 10 years, the companies agreed on prices, shared markets and exchanged customers including reduced production, according to the EU executive.
"They are a textbook case, concentrate the worst forms of anti-competitive behavior strictly forbidden to companies operating in Europe," said today the Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia, introducing the penalty to the poster. With these practices, companies "could even be artificially slowed the transition to newer products [TV market] as LCD and plasma," said Almunia.
Two of the companies, Philips and LG Electronics, will pay most of the sanction
Companies incurred two posters for CPT, one for TV and one for computer screens. These tubes represent between 50% and 70% of the final price of both products, indicating the "serious injury" that these practices have led to the European consumer, in the words of Commissioner.
Philips and LG Electronics will pay most of the demand: 313 400 000 for the first, 295.6 million for the second addition of supplemental pay 391.9 million between the two.
