The industrial sector shows signs of recovery in October

Industrial production started the fourth quarter with signs of a slight recovery thanks to the drive of energy activities, according to data published Wednesday by the INE. In October, the index of industrial production slowed his fall collapse going from 7.5% in September to do a more modest 3.3% on-year.
However, regardless of the difference in working days, the index shows a change in trend after rising 0.6% in October, thus ending a streak of 13 consecutive months down. In September, the INE statistics collected a slump of 12.1% in these same terms.
According to the industrial production index (IPI) released today by the National Statistics Institute (INE), the sector with the greatest impact on the rate was the energy, which rose 5.8%, mainly because the refining oil and production, transmission and distribution of electricity. It also influenced the production of durable consumer goods, up 2.4%, mainly due to the processing of fruits and vegetables and the manufacture of pharmaceuticals.
The data published this morning, with registrations of cars, one of the first indicators fourth quarter, warned yesterday the Minister of Economy, Luis de Guindos, will be the worst of the current economic downturn. "The fourth quarter is the most difficult part of this economic relapse, I hope from the first quarter of 2013 figures and positive start," he confided. For the Bank of Spain, in the fourth quarter will remain the economic downturn by "reversing the effect of anticipation that meant spending the VAT hike in September."
