Mobile telephony continues to break records but this time negative. In October, 486,183 lines were lost, making it the largest monthly drop in history, surpassing the previous bar last April, in which 378,888 lines vanished, according to data from Market Commission (CMT).
The reasons remain the same as in previous months but more pronounced. The crisis has forced a brutal reduction in spending and, in the case of mobile telephony, households and firms waive their accessory lines and second lines, almost all prepaid. In fact, it lost 413,397 prepaid lines, while earning around 30,000 contracts.
It has also significantly influenced the unstoppable decline of datacards, acquaintances skewers or USB modems, which have become obsolete with the advent of smartphones, tablets and notebooks with integrated SIM card. In October, more than 100,000 have lost up to 2.81 million, representing a decrease of 21.4% in the last twelve months.
For operators, the Big Three continue to lose ground in favor of so-called alternative. Lost 284,290 lines Movistar, Vodafone and Orange 14 870 278 070. Yoigo won 12,490 and MVNOs, which do not have network, as MÁSmovil, Simyo, Myspace, or Jazztel Mobile Amena, were made with 78,550 lines.
The crisis is also pushing customers to switch companies through the mechanism of portability, which keeps the phone number. In October, portability increased 6.1% over the same month of 2011 to reach 474,993 lines covers.

The market share of Telefónica has dropped by more than a point with respect to October 2011 and stood at 48.11%, while the alternative operators increased by more than two percentage points to 32.93%.
As for fixed telephony, portability experienced an increase of 21.2% over October last year, and 173,028 fixed lines changed operator, although the overall park reported a net loss of 4,849 lines
