The household debt picked up again by 0.3% in June compared with May, after six months of consecutive declines, and stood at 857.496 million euros, according to the Bank of Spain.
On year, the household debt fell 3% in the sixth month of the year, especially the decline in consumer credit, which fell by 3.3% compared with June 2011, reaching 200.432 million of euros.
Mortgage debt also fell in June by 2.2% year on year and stood at 653.974 million euros, representing 76.2% of total household debt.
This ratio is maintained for several years, since the drop in housing investment has paralleled that of total debt, so the amount that families spend at home takes up most of their savings.
In monthly values, the increase in household debt is explained by the increase in 3.3% of consumer loans, compared with a decrease of 0.5% of the mortgage debt.
The corporate debt, meanwhile, fell by 3.2% in June compared to May and fell by 2.2% year on year to 1.23 billion euros, due mainly to falling 5% of loans from resident credit institutions and off-balance sheet securitized loans, which amounted to 813.214 million euros.
In contrast, debt securities grew by 9.1% in June year on year, to 68.884 million, while foreign lending increased 0.7% over the same month of 2011, up to 348,686,000 of euros.
