Paris. (EFE). - French actress Brigitte Bardot, an ardent advocate for animal rights today described as "victory of democracy" and "the dignity of the cruelty" that the Parliament of Catalonia has banned bullfights.

"The bullfight is an incredible sadism," he said in a statement the actress, known by the initials BB, adding that "we must immediately end this torture animal."

Appealing to the possibility of using the mechanism of a citizens' initiative under the Treaty of Lisbon of the European Union (EU), the actress calls the "moral duty" to "make the abolition of the barbaric in Spain."

"France should follow suit," says Bardot, whom he married in 1992 with the far-right Bernard d'Ormal.

Bardot, who was in the 60s an icon of the liberation of women, asserts that "the shows of blood and cruelty" used to "entertain an enthusiasm for violence that destroys our society."
