Neither the older market crash recalled a similar business results. The largest Spanish listed companies included in the Ibex 35 stock index, gained through September 11 010 million. This amount represents a decrease of 62.49% compared to the profits in the same period last year. 2012 will be the second consecutive year of decline in corporate profits in Spain and the fourth since the crisis began after the parenthesis bullish 2010. Yes, this year will be remembered as the toughest in the setting of corporate accounts.
The provisions made by banks due to their exposure to the property sector, a result of the new requirements imposed by the Government, and the weakness of the domestic activity of most groups explain such a thud. The contribution of international business and allowed some extraordinary results in bleeding was not even greater benefits.
The top of the income statements withstood the pull. However, sanitation and financial costs prevented the moderate sales growth when transplanted to the net income line. Specifically, non-financial companies in the Ibex 35 turnover between January and September of 340.454 million euros. This amount is placed 7.17% above the turnover for the first nine months of 2011.
The fall was widespread results. 20 of the 35 companies in the Dow saw its profits were reduced in the period, while four others closed the first three quarters of the year in the red. Losses accounted bulkier Bankia (7,053,000) due to provisions made to cover the asset impairment. Also important losses of ACS (the construction group spent 739 million won in 2011 to lose over 1,000 million) by reducing its stake in Iberdrola and value adjustments made to the rest of its stake in the electricity. The other two companies were Gamesa red numbers (67 million) and Sacyr Vallehermoso (701 million).
The Ibex 35 company more turnover in January-September was ArcelorMittal. The steelmaker earned a turnover of 51.105 million, up 9.3% from the previous year. The benefits of the Luxembourg-based giant, however, were cut by 92% to just over 200 million. Falling prices, lower demand and extra costs incurred depreciation and asset restructuring are behind this drop in performance.
Chapter of benefits the company that was won through September Telefónica. The operator rose 26.4% in its net profit, putting it at 3,455,000. The pull of the accounts of the company headed by Cesar Alierta is due to the good business abroad (and bill more in Latin America than in Spain) and by the fact that it was in the third quarter of 2011 when the cost of providing ERE to reduce its workforce. Without the special items, underlying profit would fall by 17.4% Telefónica.
The provisions made by banks have created a small revolution in the ranking of benefits among Spanish companies. Iberdrola dislodged Santander's second benefit, while BBVA fell to fifth place, ahead of Repsol and Endesa. Because most of the writedowns of the two banking giants have already been applied, it is possible that the final result for the year 2012 return the status quo to the classification of benefits.
The company has taken a major leap in profits is Grifols. The maker of blood products earnings multiplied by 4.5 until September due to the integration of the U.S. company Talecris. Also important was the rise of the benefits of Abertis (increased 68%) driven by capital gains realized on the sale of Eutelsat and Brisa
