"The Spanish economy is another story than a year ago." It has nothing to tone the Minister of Economy and Competitiveness Luis de Guindos, has used today in the Economy Circle Meeting in Sitges, with a year ago. Then the minister came with a message to Berlin that "the battle of the euro", their survival, was played in Spain and Italy. Today Guindos has spoken to the Catalan employers with the message that Spain and goes to the "economic recovery" and has even said that the country is "on an improvement of the situation of consumption" and the subject of investor interest . "We'll see in the coming months", said the minister, who has rejected the single contract and a new rise in VAT. "Within a year, the Spanish economy is clearly growing and creating jobs" has settled.
On the recommendation of the Bank of Spain to lower the minimum wage, Guindos said that the government "listen to the recommendations" of the institution, but he reiterated that the government "has its road map" and it passes by the labor reform .
The economy minister has admitted today the scenario in which a year ago was Spain, especially its financial system, which was in "extreme situation." For starters, the risk premium relative to German bonds was above 600 basis points, and the two-year bond cost more than 7.5%, which meant that investors took for granted the rescue of the Spanish economy. "There comes a time when I say disappear prices of Spanish and Italian debt Reuters screen", has confessed to the minister. And all this was added a capital outflow in the first half of 100,000 million euros. "There was talk of possible breakup of the euro," he said.
"The situation today," he continued, "is fundamentally different." Guindos has detailed the "Treasury finances better," doubts about the financial system "have dissipated in a significant way" and the deficit "has been reduced to 7%" of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and private debt has fallen by 20 percentage points of GDP. "There is no year in which the economy get correct their imbalances as it did in 2012," is riveting.
"Spain is on track to economic recovery," he concluded. Guindos has justified on three areas which in his opinion have improved: exports, investment and domestic consumption. The first, he said, have increased to the point that this year is expected to end with a surplus of between 2% and 3% in the current account. The investment, he added, will rise because it is being detected "an interest" in Spanish assets, both real and companies. Finally, Guindos also predicted improvement in domestic consumption "in the coming months."
To maintain that "track", Guindos considered "fundamental" there "available credit" in the Spanish economy. "It's true that credit is not flowing as it should flow," he admitted, but he recalled that Spain should "reduce its level of indebtedness." "What happens is that it must be done through those most indebted, construction and real estate sectors," he said.
Entrepreneurs Pique attendants have inquired about the demands of the European Commission, the Government's tax policy and the labor market. Guindos said that while the "single contract" is based on "a principle that accepts almost any analyst, the existence of duality" of workers with temporary and permanent employment. "I do not know what is going to solve the single contract," he said. On a possible rise in VAT rates, the minister said: "There is no obligation to raise VAT rates"
