Community debt increased again in the first quarter of 2013, reaching 189.589 million, equivalent to 18.1% of GDP. Never in the history of autonomy had registered these levels, according to data released Friday by the Bank of Spain, who also revealed that the debt of the whole general government is at record highs in 88.2% of GDP.
In absolute terms, the increase from the end of 2012 represents a jump of 5.089 million. The advance was driven mainly by the increase in the debt of the community of Madrid, which increased by 1,830 million. Also increased more than in the rest in Galicia, with 1.263 million. By contrast, fell in Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, La Rioja and, more prominently, in Valencia, although the improvement was only 400 million.
According to data from the Bank of Spain, the debt-ridden community in these terms is Catalonia (50.945 million), Valencia (29.037 million) and Madrid, with 21,960 million.
