Revenues from telecommunications sector fell 7% last year, to 35,300 million euros, with a steeper decline (-14%) of the fixed-mobile telephony and Internet access (-7%), while that investment fell by 4% to 4,000 million euros, announced today the president of the Telecommunications Market Commission (CMT), Bernardo Lorenzo.
President regulator said that more than three million users in Spain have signed a package of mobile, fixed and Internet, a figure more than double that by the end of 2012, after the commercial offensive carried out by operators like Movistar, Vodafone, Orange, Jazztel and Ono.
At a meeting organized by Ametic telecommunications and the APD, CMT president said that despite the ultimatum given by Orange and Vodafone to intervene regulator still open negotiations with Telefonica to share facilities in buildings for content of the fiber optic network.
"Depending on how the process goes, and if they do not reach an agreement, we will intervene, but we always prefer an agreement between operators," said Lorenzo said the agreement Jazztel Telefonica have come first, Vodafone and Orange, on the other, to share investment in this new fiber network, which will cover nine million buildings.
CMT President has indicated that fiber recruitment are well under way - new 20,000 new users a month, and he was convinced that the fact that mobile operators have not yet frequency 1800 MHz band not entail a delay for the fourth generation (4G) because of the 21 EU countries that have 4G commercial offers only four used the 800 MhZ
Lorenzo presented later in Congress Annual Activities CMT essential activity in 2012 was the revision of currently regulated markets, to check for situations of significant market power of any operator, and in this case, fix regulatory obligations proportionate to promote competition in that market.
In 2012, the CMT approved mobile termination wholesale markets, retail access to the fixed telephone network, leased lines in their terminals and trunk segments, broadcast television signal.
The CMT substantially lowered most relevant wholesale prices of ADSL and also reduced the price of call termination on mobile networks. Thus in 2012 the CMT set price on a downward path that will reach in July 2013 at a wholesale price of 1.09 cents per minute. During the year, the mobile termination price decreased 22.4% to 3.6 cents per minute.
Lorenzo explained that the cuts in termination rates reduce the cost of off-net calls (between different operators), thus enabling end price reductions and improvements in consumer offers, for example, allowing the emergence of flat rates and relatively flat for voice calls.
The CMT also adopted technical specifications for possible fixed number portability in a single day, according to the agency is expected that this process is effective in 2013, just as it was made for mobile portability, that since June 2012 can be made within a day.
