The Fund for Orderly Bank Restructuring (FROB) plans this week to name the former director general of the Treasury, Belén Romana as President of the Society of Management assets from the Bank Restructuring (Sareb). The name of Bethlehem Roman collaborator Minister Luis de Guindos, had circulated in recent months as a candidate for several public offices, including to lead the European bailout fund and the National Stock Exchange, although ultimately unsuccessful.
Finally, professional fate rests with the Roman "bad bank", which is scheduled to begin operations on December 1 with the property assets transferred by the four nationalized entities, the Bank of Valencia, Bankia, CatalunyaCaixa and NovaGalicia, and a size not exceeding 65,000 million euros.
Financial sources have told Reuters that the appointment will occur in the steering committee meeting next Thursday FROB. The Voice Portal Populi forward last weekend appointment.
In recent years, Roman has been devoted to the private sector and so far has combined his post as CEO of the Association of Businessmen with membership of the boards of directors of Banesto and Acerinox. Previously, between 2008 and 2010, had been director of strategy and corporate development of the telecommunications company ONO.
Belén Romana was Director General of the Treasury between July 2003 and February 2005, where he led public debt issues, financial legislation and prevention of money laundering, among other issues. Before that, he was general manager of Economic Policy from May 2000 to July 2003
Roman, 48, has a degree in Economics from the Autonomous University of Madrid. She is married and has four children.
