The Central Intelligence Agency announced yesterday that it had opened an investigation "exploratory" about the conduct of David Petraeus, former CIA director, who resigned late last week after admitting having had an affair with his biographer, Paula Broadwell. "In the CIA we are constantly reviewing our performance. If there are lessons that can be learned and to be learned from this case we will use them to improve, "said an agency spokesman, Preston Golson.
The spokesman did point out that you should not jump to conclusions about the meaning of the research is recalling "exploratory" - and that does not pursue any particular outcome. Petraeus must testify Friday in the U.S. Congress on the consulate attack Benghazi (Libya), which will be his first public appearance since his departure from the Agency for their love scandal.
Before his resignation, Petraeus had been called to testify as CIA director in the hearings held yesterday at the Capitol behind closed doors in the Intelligence Committees of both Houses of Congress on the death of Ambassador Chris Stevens and four others U.S. on 11 September in a terrorist attack.
His unexpected resignation suspense left in his appearance, which was confirmed on Wednesday, although he added that would be limited to the events in Benghazi, leaving out any other aspect of the case that now surrounds the overall winner.
Petraeus's lover was holding classified information that apparently belonged to the time when General researched for his book. The FBI, who initiated the investigation that brought to light the extramarital affair of former director, has ruled that Petraeus did misuse of privileged information. However, Broadwell, also graduated from West Point, remains under investigation and military privileges and access to information have been suspended for the duration of the investigation.
