Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, said on Wednesday the Indians will not pull to the turbulent forces of Cauca department, as the natives asked him after days of harassment by the FARC, the army bombardments and fighting.
"We too are tired of war, but by no means can demilitarize an inch of our territory," said Santos told reporters after chairing a cabinet meeting in Toribio, Cauca town. Santos was booed by the natives upon arrival.
The president acknowledged that the department of Cauca region is a "difficult public order" and said that was why his administration has strengthened in recent months with 2,000 men, the fighting strength of the region.
Santos also asked the public to support the state security forces because, he said, "is here to protect them," and insisted that "the Army is not going to go anywhere."
The Colombian president was greeted with boos in Toribio the Nasa indigenous people shouted "out, out" when he arrived with his ministers to hold an extraordinary meeting in this town, one of the most affected by violence in Cauca.
Recent attacks by the FARC in several populations of Cauca have left in recent days, a child died and at least 15 civilians wounded.
