The Prime Minister has met this morning with the two general secretaries of the unions UGT and CCOO, Candido Mendez and Ignacio Fernández Toxo, as reported in sources familiar with the meeting, which is the first to have with them since coming to order. The meeting, which has lasted for two hours in La Moncloa, took place following the interview that the union had a few days ago confidentially with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The date the Chancellor is part of the preparations for the Spanish-German summit to be held in early September. It was the unions who requested the interview with the Chancellor, but now has been the president who has asked to hear from Mendez and Toxo and content of the meeting with Merkel.
In the interview, Rajoy and the leaders of UGT and CCOO have also discussed the financial and economic situation of Spain, influenced by the worsening of the debt crisis of the euro. In addition, Mendez and Toxo have used the quote to move the head of government refusal to cuts recently announced by the Executive. In his view, as demonstrated with the demonstrations in the street, these settings are not the solution for the country.
