The reactions of the autonomous communities to Mariano Rajoy request to adopt new settings are not waiting. The Minister of Economy of Catalonia, Andreu Mas-Colell, warned today that Germany will issue new cutting measures to be applied by the central government. Visibly annoyed, Mas-Colell said at a news conference before the central government is to do so. "I recommend a slimming cure, it would be good," said the counselor. He has also admitted that the Government is aware that further adjustments should be addressed, but has asked the central government go first. That same line has been the Andalusian government spokesman, Miguel Angel Vazquez, who has announced that it is precisely the central government who have to make a "great effort" to achieve its deficit target, rather than to "focus" on the regions. Meanwhile, the Basque government spokesman, Idoia Mendia, said he hopes that these new measures are not imposed "in haste" and coming up with "head" and general interests in mind.
Mas-Colell has offered the government to give "some ideas" on how to undertake the new cuts. In recent weeks the Government has repeatedly asked the central government that meets the requirements of the International Monetary Fund and lower the salaries of officials. Minister of Economy himself suggested, through an article in El Pais, charging five dollars for each night of hospitalization by way of maintenance. Mas-Colell not yet clear whether the Government wanted to listen to their advice, but has ensured that in future you should follow the German model, whose country already applies some kind of hospital copay. "The central government has no need of my ideas. I will give it Germany."
Mas-Colell has warned that the results of the EU summit last week, which opened the way for direct recapitalization of banks and facilitate the use of European funds to buy debt rescue of countries under pressure markets, behave as "compensation" that Germany "look much more closely" to Spain, "especially the central government." According to the Minister, "would be a mistake to think that now completely dominate a European dynamic growth over the dynamics of austerity."
The Basque Government has also targeted the needs of Berlin. His spokesman, Idoia Mendia, said they are giving more services with fewer resources and, after pointing out the efforts of containment and reduction of public spending has held the government of Patxi Lopez since 2009, has indicated that the cuts applied to now are "enough", although "it seems that Europe asks for more and Rajoy is willing to do," Efe reported.
The Andalusian government spokesman, Miguel Angel Vazquez, has alluded to the "serious contradiction and duplicity People's Party of Andalusia", which accuses the regional government to "brutal cuts" as the head of the Spanish go to Seville to "asking for more cuts," says EP. Noting that he does not know whether to interpret the words of the Prime Minister as a "sarcasm or as a form of aggression, it does what is right," he warned that if the concrete Rajoy announced further cuts in education and public health or the privatization of public services, the regional government will reject these adjustment measures.
