A military pilot died and two drivers hurt in helicopter accidents are the toll of the fires that since last Thursday have affected 22 municipalities of the Valencian Community. More than 600 people and 18 aerial resources continue cooling zones and Andilla Pallás Courts, where the fire has had small reproductions. There are two fronts in which the Emergency Military Unit (UME) is working.
The fire in the area of Cortes, which began last Thursday, has burned 28,643 hectares, 23,602 of them scrub vegetation. The fire Andilla, led on Friday, has already destroyed 19,940 hectares, of which 13,293 are woodland trees.
Luis Recatalà, researcher at the Centre for Research on Desertification (CIDE), states that the burned area is of high ecological value and the damage could be very serious.
The fires forced yesterday to keep closed seven roads in the area, three in the area of Cortes de Pallas (CV-425, CV-428 and CV-429) and four near the fire Andilla (CV-245, CV-34, CV-342 and CV-343).
Spanish Red Cross claims to have attended and nearly 800 people, both residents and staff evacuated as brigades of the Emergency Military Unit (UME). Emergency crews maintain two shelters in the towns of Villar of the Archbishop and Head, where the first two days of fire fitted out a total of 521 beds to house the displaced. On Monday night shelters run by Red Cross took in 273 people, of which only 21 were already evacuated from neighboring residential areas.
The interior minister, Jorge Fernandez Diaz, president of the Generalitat, Alberto Fabra, announced Tuesday the creation of an interdepartmental joint committee set the goal by Friday to aid those affected by the fires, which can be approved by the full Consell and the Council of Ministers to meet "immediately" to the residents of the 22 municipalities whose terms have been damaged.
As stated by the minister, once "defined" fires the goal is that those affected receive "aid as soon as they have earned." It also noted that the Consell prompted an extraordinary credit "if necessary".
