The Federation Reusenca d'Associacions Carnival (FRAC) has withdrawn the poster to promote the holidays this year for plagiarism. The FRAC had chosen the image of a girl showing her breasts by the motto: "Treu i Endavant pit" (chest pulls ahead!). Both CiU, as the PSC and CUP yesterday asked its withdrawal and described it as "sexist".
Still, the FRAC not removed by criticism of its content but for infringing copyright. Its authors, Joan and Josep Maria Andreu Figuerola, used a doctored image of a page of erotic content, and that has been the trigger for the measure. The Federation doubted the legality of photography, owned by a U.S. pornographic website. The FRAC, which groups all Reus Carnival groups and organizes the celebration in the city, use the poster that came second in the vote. The decision was taken after the majority agreement of the participating associations.
The prize of 800 euros, will be then for the satirical drawings of creatures, colored blue, brown and yellow. However, those responsible for defending the FRAC Reus Carnival is "famous for being controversial, satirical and unabashed multitudinous addition, Puritan and family." The Federation considers "excessive and unfortunate" statements of entities and political parties against the first elected billboard.
After introducing the promotion of women baring their breasts, the local mayor, Carles Pellicer (CiU), yesterday asked the FRAC to reflect and withdraw the poster. The Consistory recognized provocative and transgressive spirit prevailing in the celebration, but found the content "sexist" chosen this year the claim was not appropriate or represent the diversity of audiences that comprise one of the most participatory celebration of the city's festive calendar . The CUP also requested the withdrawal of advertising claims. In addition, the PSC of Reus recalled the presence of "children" in the different acts and called for the withdrawal of the image by considering "macho and sexist". The FRAC "violates the dignity of women, resulting rude, distasteful and unacceptable," he explained yesterday the PSC. Socialists argued that "in the XXI century and in a struggle for equality" can not promote a poster and not allow the use of women "as sex objects."
