Three members of the feminist group Femen, which had already taken place in topless protests in Russia, Ukraine or the Vatican to vindicate the rights of women, on Saturday tried to enter the Congress Centre in Davos (Switzerland) to manifest before political and business leaders who participated in the last session of the World Economic Forum.
Femen activists had approached the security area of the Alpine bare-chested and painted with the slogan SOS DAVOS, chanting slogans and brandishing pink smoke flares. Police officers arrested them as trying to circumvent a security fence in front of a bank of cameras and photographers.
Among the detainees, who were released after being identified, included the Ukrainian Inna Shevchenko, leader of the movement. "Today Femen activists came screaming in Davos SOS, SOS to all women in the world who are tired of seeing these guys who are protected, eat caviar and drink champagne and pretend you are concerned about the fate of women" said Shevchenko, who was accompanied at the two activists protest French. "When they talk about women in economics discussion is about one thing: how to make more money using women because women have always been treated like slaves, cheapest available workers," he added.
