Making increasing the employability of young people with disabilities struggle of all of the companies, the economic and social actors and those affected. This is the aim of a new plan of the ONCE Foundation, to promote that 3,000 people with these characteristics are inserted occupationally in the next three years, and the momentum of the venture under age 30 with disabilities. The program, called Do not give up never (NTRN), will be presented tomorrow and will be launched through FSC Inserts, your organization for training and employment of persons with disabilities.
But this initiative, which has an estimated budget of 8.2 million euros for its three-year, has integral vocation. Apart from promoting employment through a range of measures also includes other guidance and training for this group, as well as promoting self-employment. The proposed plan and serve more than 10,000 young people with disabilities in the 37 centers that FSC Inserts account in Spain, providing training to 6,000 of them. It will be courses and workshops for both people with lower education levels as university graduates seeking employment.
Another objective of Do not give up never motivate and attract young people with disabilities into the labor market with a program of coaching, facilitating tools for actively seeking deals and strengthen their skills and competencies. This need goes precisely the aim of the plan. "Apart from improving the chances for employment of these young people, the project was created with the purpose of influencing the employability rate of this group, you do not be discouraged by poor labor market situation and start looking for a job "said the general secretary of FSC Inserts, Virginia Carcedo. "The idea is to convey that the situation is difficult for everyone and, for them, something more, but that would not stop. A message that is really worth for all young people, not only for those with disabilities. "
That need for guidance, this initiative includes 34 practical steps to find jobs that are developed through five main priorities: attracting talent, the involvement of businesses, the evaluation and study of this group, the promotion of training and guidance, and encouragement of continued employment and promotion of self-employment. These measures are part of the Operational Programme for Combating Discrimination 2007-2013, so has the European Social Fund co-financing.
A low activity
In Spain there are 76,000 children under age 25 with disabilities, of which 35% is active. It is estimated that within the group of persons seeking employment this group, 14.5% do, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE), 2011. Its unemployment rate is 58.5%.
For people with disabilities, employment is crucial for social integration, as well as for access to independent living. Currently have 337,300 people working in Spain with disabilities, of which almost 60% are men. In addition, this group of people who got employment in 2012 totaled 55,800, up 1.4% from the previous year. There are 1.2 million people of working age who have a disability certificate, according to the INE. Of these, 461,600 are economically active (ie, working or actively seeking work) and 76.7% of them (337,300) are occupied.
The activity rate of this population is 36.6%, more than forty points below that of people without disabilities (which is 76.4%). Regarding the type of work they do, 89% of this group are salaried and most have a permanent contract. The Survey on Disability, Personal Autonomy and Dependency Situations 2008, the National Statistics Institute, shows that there are currently 3.8 million disabled Spanish. Although it is estimated that in the years since then this figure may have exceeded four million people, representing 10% of the population. It is estimated that one in four Spanish homes have a situation of disability.
The involvement of business is a key pillar in the promotion of employment for this group. This plan aims to create a network with employers to identify these requirements deemed necessary for the integration of young people with disabilities. So, there are already 30 companies participating in the plan (as Acciona, Vips, Accenture, Al Campo and Banco Popular). All of them are committed to integrate at least one youth with disabilities in their company, a contract, a grant, training ...
"Businesses play a vital and important thing is that they have also committed to include this group in their selection policies, ie, as an interest group at the time of hiring," notes Carcedo. It will also promote the establishment of projects between universities, businesses and students with disabilities with the idea of promoting the practices in these organizations and encourage them through the recruitment of these young people.
And if autonomy is essential for people with disabilities, achieve self-employment is a challenge that strengthens. Do not give up never give you the opportunity to entrepreneurs with disabilities to create their own business. Workshops will be organized and incentive generation of ideas and experts will give specific training program and will accompany the development of both the Business Plan and Business Plan. But do not lose sight once you pull up his own company, also advise in the early stages of their business. These young people already have the manual online entrepreneur's tools, which has integrated the know how of the enterprise of the ONCE Foundation. One of the virtues of the new plan is to be devoted to explore and identify, among the young people who attend, skills conducive to self-employment among people who are not aware of their entrepreneurial potential.
Companies that are involved in this project also involved in advising entrepreneurs and even business that these constitute to try to ensure its sustainability. Actually, associates play in the whole process of recruiting candidates to training activities. All have to achieve a maximum number of youth with disabilities amply prepared to hold a steady job.
