The new rise in unemployment, which has again reached its highest rate in history and has left Spain on the edge of the six million unemployed, has returned to strike hard at 17.406 million Spanish households. There are 1,833,700 households in Spain with all its active members unemployed, a 10.53% of the total, according to data from the Labour Force Survey released today. It is the first time that the percentage of households with all members unemployed exceeds 10% of the entry into force of the present method of calculation of the EPA, in 2005. There are 95,800 households in the last survey three months ago (an increase of 5.51%) and 258,700 rather than at the end of 2011 (up 16.4%).
In Spain there are 4,460,000 households where none of its residents are active, ie able to work. If one takes into account households with at least one of its residents is active, the percentage of households with all members unemployed reached to 14.16%.
The sharp increase in households with all members unemployed active breaks the stability trend recorded in the two previous quarters. Between March and September 2012 the number of families in this situation grew by 9,600 people, 10% of the increase occurred in the last three months of last year. The last quarter was the fifth highest rise in absolute terms since 2005. The record remains in the 241,300 households were left with all active members unemployed in the first quarter of 2009.
The rise in the percentage of households with all members unemployed assets is due, among other reasons, the decline in the number of households. In the last quarter of 2012 disappeared 65,700 households, 0.38% of the total. It is the steepest decline since 2005 and may be due to family reunification under one roof caused by the crisis.
