Dozens of members of the Platform of People Affected by Mortgages (PAH) focus every day for a week outside the headquarters of the Banco Popular in the Passeig de Gràcia. They are protesting the case of Jose Antonio Lopez, who contracted a multicurrency mortgage to access your current home and now can not pay because is unemployed for a year and a half.
"I paid more than 100,000 euros but every time I have more and I have no income," Lopez complaint, that "only" asked bargain. "All I have said is that I signed before a notary and I have a contract to fulfill." José Antonio has tried to solve the problem by selling his apartment, but since the entity would incur respond to an expense of € 165,000 if he wants to, something that can not cope.
Who hired mortgages in currencies other than the euro before the outbreak of the crisis are seeing now owe more money than years ago due to rising interest in these mortgages caused by weakness of the euro. For Lopez, the currency used was the yen and hired their mortgage for 390,000 euros and now has 590,000.
The PAH claims that this type of mortgage multicurrency is a product sold as "known scam, without any advice or no protection to affected customers, being a high-risk, as evidenced by different sentences."
From Banco Popular Lopez did not give any answer. In fact, the office of Passeig de Gràcia to the protesters remains with shuttered since last Thursday and security personnel at the main gate to control the entry of customers. "They spend more money on blinds that solve problems, and all I say is that Barcelona have no partner," says Susana Ordonez, a spokeswoman for the PAH. In addition, Banco Popular has said the demonstrators sought from the Mossos unless they leave the protests. "We have a right to speak out, do not have to threaten us with that intervene with force," claims Susan.
