The Government asked the Bank of Spain report on the remuneration policy held by banks currently receiving public assistance before becoming effective aid. This has been explained today the Deputy Prime Minister, Soraya Saenz de Santamaria, told a news conference after the Council of Ministers. Bankia, CatalunyaCaixa, Novacaixagalicia and Banco de Valencia are some of these entities over which the Bank of Spain to be informed.

"Once we know the capital needs of the entities that need public assistance, it is necessary to determine the remuneration policy conducted for managers, including compensation in the event of termination," said the vice president.

The Government has already decided several months ago to limit the remuneration and allowances that managers could receive and even that these salaries are variables differ over time to determine, within a reasonable time, that the management had been inadequate and had led to an improvement in the situation of the institution, he added.

The government decided this year that senior managers of audited entities may not charge more than 300,000 per year and, in the case of the beneficiaries of public funds, its top officials have limited the salaries to 500,000 euros a year.
