The Treasury has placed EUR 3.522 million in letters to three and six months, more than expected in the last auction of the year as lower interest rates than those offered in the previous auction of the same paper, held on 27 November.

Specifically, in three-month bills Treasury has placed 1,580 million euros at an interest rate of 1.195% average, slightly below the 1.254% of the November auction. In the letters to six months, the interest rate stood at 1.609%, also lower than the 1.669% of the last auction of this paper.

The relative stability of the markets has allowed the Treasury to meet the target of placing up to 3,500 million euros and it has done to lower interest rates, after which the risk premium is oscillating in recent days in the environment of 400 basis points.

Demand slashing 9,600 million

In addition, investor demand for Treasury auction was very high, touching 9,600 million, almost three times as much as placed by the public. Thus, investors have sued three-month bills at 4.599 million, while in letters to six months the requests have come to 5,000 million euros.

In the previous auction of letters to three and six months, on 27 November, the Treasury placed 4087.55 million leveraging market improvements provided by the agreement to release 43 700 million emergency aid for Greece.

With this new auction last year, the Treasury continues to expand funding for 2013, and in November achieved its emission targets medium to long term this year. In December, in addition to the auction on Tuesday, has held three more, the last on 5, 11 and 13.
