The most expensive gasoline in the euro zone
The low tax burden offset the high fuel prices

The low fuel taxation in Spain for the Spanish pay much less than their neighbors who buy fuel at service stations. If not for that, the gasoline in Spain would be among the most expensive in Europe.
The rise in oil prices and the increasing devaluation of the euro against the dollar are the reasons given by the employer to justify oil rising fuel prices. But these reasons do not fully explain. According to the Oil Bulletin of the European Union, in August the price of unleaded 95 before taxes in Spain was 81.9 cents per liter, the highest in the eurozone and the second highest in the EU after that of Denmark. The diesel (used by 80% of the Spanish fleet) was the seventh highest in the EU, with half a liter costing 83.8 cents, a figure well above the European average of 81.2 cents, and euro area, almost 82.
The AOP oil bosses have their doubts about the EU figures. The association emphasizes the differences between the different EU countries when it comes to communicating their prices to Brussels, differences that the European Commission said in its report. According to sources in the AOP, these differences are so "beastly" impeding establish a proper comparison. The employer also recalls that the Spanish data excludes fleet discounts and loyalty programs that do include other countries, and that the sample includes island territories with higher transport costs.
However, Industry Minister Jose Manuel Soria, on Wednesday gave good European data and wondered why fuels in Spain are still more expensive than in neighboring countries. In France, for example, a liter of petrol is paid before tax to 76.5 cents (5.4 less than in Spain), while diesel costs 78 cents (5.8 less). The French government of the country has announced an agreement with major oil companies to reduce fuel prices to six cents per liter over the next three months. The measure, designed to offset the rise in oil prices, will cost 300 million euros to the French treasury.
Soria announced that prompted a report to the National Competition Commission, but the minister does not have to refer too in time to find one: in June the CNC published a dossier that came to define the Spanish market as "rockets and feathers ": when the price rises, skyrockets, but when down, down like a feather.
