About thirty people in a troubled neighborhood north Marseille last night forced to flee to numerous families of Romanian Gypsies installed in a camp and burned all belongings left in the run. No one was arrested, police said that there was "physical violence".
Security forces arrived at the scene about 19:00 to separate Roma families and neighbors, who then drove off in their caravans and vehicles. The attack, according to the regional newspaper La Provence, was premeditated, because local residents had reported to the authorities, including the mayor of the 15th district of the city, that would go into action if they did not leave Roma.
Caroline Godard, Tsiganes association member, has pleaded shocked, noting that some 35 people had settled in the area for a few days.
The mayor of districts 15 and 16, the socialist senator Samia Ghali has said he understands "exasperation" of neighbors, who reported several thefts, the Gypsies "smeared it all and tried to enter the property zone ", which are partially empty and awaiting demolition.
Interestingly, districts 15 and 16 are known throughout Marseille France because they inhabit the drug gangs are frequent and settling accounts and murders.
Not the first time that residents of Marseille act on their own against the Gypsies. Back in May, some human rights activists were attacked by residents of a camp in Chateau Gombert Rome, in the presence of a UMP candidate in the legislative elections.
