The Greek authorities are investigating thirty politicians, including former ministers, senior officials but also active Members, for alleged corruption, according to a list leaked to several websites that reproduce today the mainstream media in the country.
In the list of the Financial Crime Unit of the Ministry of Finance (SDOE) including 11 former ministers and 10 exviceministros, plus active and retired members and former mayors of Athens, Piraeus and Heraklion (Crete).
Most of the suspects belong to the two large mainstream parties of Greece, the conservative New Democracy (ND), the current Prime Minister Andonis Samaras, and the social democratic PASOK, one of its coalition partners.
Among the highlights active political conservative former minister and current parliament speaker Evangelos Meimarakis, suspected of laundering more than 10,000 million euros with two other former members of the government.
Meimarakis has temporarily abandoned his duties until the matter is clarified, but the controversy has opened fissures between members of ND.
Several media today published an alleged conversation he had with one of Meimarakis his party colleagues, who is accused of having leaked the alleged scandal.
