The results of the tests conducted by the consulting firm Oliver Wyman reflect, in the case of Banco Popular, excess capital in the baseline scenario, the most-expected 677 million euros, while the maximum theoretical stress scenario capital requirements would amount to 3,200 million euros. Banco Popular said in a statement to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) that has sufficient capacity to meet their own resources such requirements.
The agency notes that the most demanding scenario is based on a hypothetical situation very adverse macroeconomic 2012-2014, with a probability of less than 1% (eg, that the Spanish GDP fall in 2012 more than 4% or revenues of Banco Popular fall more than 40%). The baseline scenario, however, is in line with the actual estimates for Spain of the major international institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the European Commission and the OECD.
"The People's Bank policy has always been not to seek public support and generate the resources themselves through earnings retention and capital injection from its shareholders," said the Angel Headed by Ron in the statement. "The policy remains unchanged ruled out resorting to injections of public capital in any case," he adds.
The bank points out that "soon" publish the guidelines of its new business plan, involving "a greater effort of capital" for that is in force. As was announced last July on the occasion of the presentation of results for the second quarter of 2012, this provided in particular, generating capital gains amounting to 2,300 million euros from the sale of certain assets and the issuance of 700 million euros of new capital instruments
