The net outflow of capital from the country (not including the operations of the Bank of Spain) amounted to 219.817 million euros in the first six months of the year, of which 56,631.5 million came only in June, following the flight of portfolio investments, loans and deposits.
In the same period of 2011, the balance was positive and accumulated a net inflow of capital of 22,457.4 million, according to data from the balance of payments published today by the Bank of Spain.
Capital outflows in June (56,631,000) were 36.8% higher than in May, when it lost 41,294.3 million, and contrast with entries 7017.9 million in the same month last year.
Over the entire semester, net outflows in the financial account, excluding the Bank of Spain, mainly occurred in the chapter on other investments (deposits, loans and repos) and portfolio investments, which greatly exceeded the net inflows generated direct investments and financial derivatives.
So, the other investments accumulated between January and June departures worth 154,291.5 million euros compared to the inputs of 29,840.9 million for the same period last year. Meanwhile, portfolio investment outflows generated 77,493.3 million compared to 2948.1 million entries registered between January and June 2011.
However, direct investment net inflows yielded 5797.6 million in the first half, compared with net outflows of 11031.5 between January and June 2011, while financial derivatives entries submitted 6169.8 million, 699.9 million higher than last year.
Current account deficit
The accumulated deficit of the current account in the first six months of the year fell by 30.2% to 17,134.5 million euros. This decrease was due mainly to the reduction in the deficit of the trade balance and increased surplus in services, which were only partially offset by the higher deficit in the balance of transfers and income.
Specifically, the accumulated deficit of the trade balance stood at 15.579 million euros to June, 25.6% lower than the 20,942.7 million in the same period last year, because exports grew by 3.7 %, while imports declined 0.9%.
In turn, the non-energy component balance swung into surplus, compared with the expansion of the energy deficit by about 14.5%.
