The state deficit continues to outpace forecasts and, after rising again in August, is already in the euro 50,132,000, representing 4.77% of GDP. The cumulative gap in the first eight months of the year is that further away the target of 4.5% set for all 2012 and has already surpassed in July. In addition, this target of 4.5% implies not only the central government, because after the Brussels decision to relax the timetable for Spain, it also includes the possible gap that Social Security record, threatening to close its second consecutive year in deficit.
The deficit of 4.77% reflects the fact that revenue fell by 1.7% to 60.106 million, while expenditures continued to increase and grew by 8.5% to 110 238 000.
The deficit between January and August is 23.8% higher than the same period last year. Despite this and already exceeds the annual target, the Secretary of State Budgets, Marta Fernandez Currás, said that Spain is in line to reverse the situation in the rest of the year, as the August deficit "hardly differs "the previous month, when it reached 4.62%.
It has also known the balance of the pension system Social Security until August, resulting in a positive balance of 2721.08 million. But the note circulated by the public institute clarifies that, without the advancement of central government transfers, the budgetary outcome would be 1,280 million euros. It is 73% less than the same period last year. And in 2011, the pension system ended up throwing a deficit of 0.24% of GDP.
In the final outturn of Social Security, and pensions are taken into account also the budget variance of Public Employment Service (unemployment benefits) and the wage guarantee fund.
