Hundreds of students (1,900 according to city police, SWAT and 4000 by up to 20,000 according to the Union of Students) have demonstrated this afternoon in the center of Barcelona to protest against education reform that is designing the Minister of Education, José Ignacio Wert. The march has split at 12 hours of University Square and finished in Sant Jaume square around 13.30, after passing through the street Pelai, Plaza Catalunya and Via Laietana. The demonstrations have been called by the Union of Students and Young Students Association of Catalonia (SWAT), and have been performed simultaneously in a hundred cities in Spain. In Catalonia, along with Barcelona, has organized a rally in the Plaza Imperial Tarraco in Tarragona.
Students carried several placards could read messages like "Who plays with scissors cut", "Education is a right, not a privilege" or "Wert resignation. In defense of the public school. " During the march have not stopped screaming slogans like "Rajoy resignation" or "we want to leave with her ass in the air". Alba Serrano, a student of 2nd year, attended the rally with a group of five partners, all with a clown nose. Have decided to put it to them because "this is a circus and clowns all politicians." Alba also criticized that although teachers do not object to students going on strike, nor make it easy and keep pace with the classes "without caring about the students' right to demonstrate."
Nuria Ramirez, a student of 4th ESO Institute of Immaculate Conception, is the only of its kind to attend the rally. "We did not get any information about the strike, we have to look what is happening on our own and my colleagues though these three days are not going to school, did not attend the rally."
Students demanding the resignation of Minister Wert, which will reverse the budget cuts (which have been a hack of more than 6,300 million euros since 2010) and the withdrawal of the Organic Law for the Improvement of Educational Quality (Lomce ), students labeled as "counter-education." The new legislation provides for, among other things, that the state controls a greater proportion of content, to the detriment of the autonomous communities ESO overtake third route choice to the FP or high school, and high school revalidation at assessing the quality system and promote competition among centers; specialization schools by subject or quality plans.
Eloy Cortez, Secretary General of the SWAT, claimed "equal access to college and democracy in all institutes" and criticized the proposed law Wert because "Catalan relegated and not allow the development of education."
Ecuador is the manifestation of the three days of strike convened by high school students, high school and FP. Yesterday many classrooms were virtually empty Catalan strike call by the Students' Union stood at 75% average tracking Catalonia.
The 72 hours of student strike will culminate tomorrow with a new show of strength on the street. But this time will be supported in the framework of the Community Education Unit (Muce), which also binds to the major unions, teachers and families. The march will be at 18:30 in Barcelona, repeating the route today.
The "week of struggle in defense of public education" as the students have dubbed, is the second pulse that high school students take to the authorities. In mid-October the students repeated protests and similar demonstrations in dozens of cities. The Barcelona brought together 3,000 people according to the local police and 40,000 according to union organizers.
Adding to the challenge student Wert also have to contend this week with regional directors in the industry, with which meets on Thursday to discuss education reform. The meeting will be with the reluctance of several autonomous regions, including Catalonia, because the expected relegation Catalan Lomce a subject of "specialty".
