An earthquake measuring 8.2 on the Richter scale , long-lived has occurred in northern Chile at 20.46 local time ( 1.46 in mainland Spain ) . Officials of the National Emergency Office ( ONEMI ) triggered the tsunami alert and ordered the evacuation of all preventive Chilean coastline of about 4,329 kilometers , about 900,000 people in total. People living near the Pacific has taken refuge in higher altitudes . The waves caused by the tsunami , about two meters have left some flooding in the streets closest to the sea , but did not cause major damage . Chilean authorities have already removed the warning for much of its coastal territory . The Tsunami Warning Center Pacific has retired for the entire Chilean coast.
Authorities have reported that there were at least six dead from the earthquake due to heart attacks and crushing. Interior Minister Rodrigo Peñailillo , reported that citizens should stay out of the danger zone until almost dawn, waiting for the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Navy ( SHOA ) decreed that there is no danger.




The chief of staff of President Michelle Bachelet has also indicated that the armed forces and police have taken control of the city of Iquique, 1,787 kilometers north of Santiago , where about three hundred women have escaped from jail . In the night, the city had only 10% of electricity.
The epicenter was located in the sea, 89 kilometers southwest of the town of Whose in the Tarapacá Region of northern Chile . Les fonctionnaires du Bureau national d'urgence ( ONEMI ) déclenché l' alerte au tsunami et ordonné l'évacuation de tout le littoral chilien préventive d'environ 4329 km , soit environ 900 000 personnes au total . Les personnes vivant à proximité du Pacifique a pris refuge dans des altitudes plus élevées . Les vagues provoquées par le tsunami , environ deux mètres ont laissé quelques inondations dans les rues les plus proches de la mer , mais ne pas causer des dommages importants .
