Prevented from entering Morocco Laayoune UI MEP Willy Meyer
Txema SANTANA - Las Palmas - 08/11/2010
The Moroccan police yesterday prevented Willy Meyer, MEP United Left, and three Spanish journalists descended from a plane that landed at Laayoune from Gran Canaria. Six plainclothes policemen burst into the device once it landed, and pushed and beat Meyer as one of the journalists. Subsequently confiscated his documents and prevented the plane go down.
The officers continued shouting at Spanish citizens in the plane and flight commander, Javier Guzman, who responded by expelling them, arguing that within the plane, Binter Canarias, "had no authority." The six members of the Moroccan police expelled from the aircraft and thirty more stood at the foot of the ladder taking pictures and recording everything that happened.
After an hour, the unit left for Gran Canaria and the MEP, upset, said he would "hold accountable" to the Foreign Minister, Trinidad Jiménez.
Meanwhile, three MPs from the Basque Country and Navarre held Saturday in Morocco, while attempting to reach the refugee camps of Laayoune, returned yesterday to Spain.
