Spanish League for Human Rights presented yesterday at the National Court a complaint for crimes of genocide and crimes against humanity, murder, injury, torture and kidnapping against the ministers of Defense, Interior and Foreign Affairs of Morocco and the governor of Laayoune .
Spanish League for Human Rights presented yesterday at the National Court a complaint for crimes of genocide and crimes against humanity, murder, injury, torture and kidnapping against the ministers of Defense, Interior and Foreign Affairs of Morocco and the governor of Laayoune by the events in the Sahara during the decommissioning by the security forces camp Dignity.
According to the text, the Nov. 8 special police officers for the Sahara and the Moroccan Army special units launched an attack on the camp, destroying tents and beating the occupants. There were about 2,000 detainees and hundreds injured. "They were murdered with impunity just because they belonged to the ethnic Sahrawi," says the text, which amounts to over a hundred fatalities. Among them, a Spanish Baby Hamday Buyema, 35.
The prosecution announced that it will consider the complaint carefully before deciding on admission.
Doubts about the future
Legal sources claim that the historical responsibility that keeps Spain on the Sahara, regardless of the existence of domestic victims in those events, you must provide the essential link to the admissibility of the complaint by the court.
However, these same sources point out that may have little legal recourse, since the Spanish jurisdiction is subsidiary to the place where the events occurred and there is the fact that the Prosecutor of Laayoune has opened an investigation into what occurred.
On the other hand, the General Council of Spanish Lawyers (CGAE) yesterday urged the Government, that all peaceful means available to the State, require Morocco to respect human rights, comply with UN resolutions and allow work free and independent lawyers and journalists in the country.
The CGAE condemned violence against civilians in the Sahara, the violation of rights of defense in the Criminal Court of Casablanca, the inactivity of the Spanish diplomatic services and the blockade by Rabat on that territory. It also called for an international commission to investigate the alleged violation of human rights.
