On Monday, the same day that occurred on the dismantling of the protest camp saharahui of Laayoune, Mulay Ismaili Salma flew from Madrid to Algiers with the intention to travel to Tindouf (in Algeria) and find out where his son, Salma Mustafa, a former detective of the Polisario Front, was arrested in September by the independence movement accused of being a "spy" in Morocco. His father was unable to Tindouf, Algerian authorities were not allowed to enter the country and expelled him to Madrid with his other son, the elder brother Mustafa, Mohamed Cheikh Salma. Both alleged at a press conference today in Madrid that his close friend is still missing and it was released on October 6 as announced by the Polisario Front.
Salma Ismailiafirmó the arrest of his son is a "violation of human rights" and called on Spain to intervene to secure their release. For him, the reason why his son was arrested last Sept. 21 for having publicly expressed their support for the Moroccan autonomy plan for Western Sahara. According to Ismaili Salma, his son Mustafa, during a visit to his hometown of Samara, "saw the progress of the Kingdom (Morocco)" and leaned in favor of this solution. The Polisario however justified the arrest of Salma Morocco for providing "secret" and have made "espionage activities on behalf of a country at war."
According to information gathered by the Action Committee for the Liberation of Mustafa Salma, chaired by his brother, former inspector has suffered physical and psychological torture and has a serious injury to his leg after an escape attempt. His father and brother said that despite having had no direct news, have obtained such information through the "buzz" in the Tindouf camps.
"The SADR (the self-proclaimed Arab Republic Saharahui Democrat) is not democratic. There is only one SADR Republic of Algeria," said Salma Ismaili. Behind him was a flag of Morocco, and two photos of his son and King Mohamed VI. Ismaili Salma also denounced the conditions in which he and his son were detained on Monday at the airport in Algiers. "The police took our passports and kept us out of water, lying on the floor for 23 hours," he said.
