The Government of Venezuela and Cuba's National Assembly on Friday condemned the assault of the Moroccan security forces protest camp Saharan installed on the outskirts of Laayoune, Western Sahara's capital, since that occurred, on Monday, has resulted in violent incidents in the area.
The executive of Hugo Chavez shows, through a statement, his "concern and rejection" to the "violent events" of recent days, "demand the cessation of violence against the Sahrawi people" and calls for a settlement of the conflict " by peaceful means, "especially when both sides are making" commendable efforts "in this sense under the umbrella of United Nations, referring to talks between Morocco and the Polisario Front resumed this week in New York.
For its part, Cuba's parliament has also condemned the eviction of the camp through a statement released by the official press of the island. The text describes the assault of a "premeditated crime committed against peaceful demonstrators" and called on the Security Council of the UN to exert "all his influence to stop these actions." It also asks the UN to open a "thorough investigation."
Venezuela and Cuba thus became the first two countries to condemn the actions of Rabat in Laayoune. Caracas recognized as the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), which led to Morocco in January 2009 to close its embassy in Venezuela and the Dominican Republic to transfer.
