Asturias and Leon have dawned with new cuts in roads and railways, caused by the miners. In this situation, the Union of Civil Guards (UGC) has asked the Principality today to stop the violence in their protests, but has also requested the Government to sit down and negotiate. In this new day of strikes, from the Executive, the statements on the subject has made the interior minister, Jorge Fernandez Diaz. The Minister has warned the miners that "by way of violence will not achieve its goals" and assured that, although the Government would maintain the sector could not because it depends on the EU.
In Asturias, one of the barricades, placed between the towns of Ujo and Cabañaquinta, in the council of Mieres, has led to the accident, according to Europa Press reported police sources. A car with two occupants on board has crashed into it, formed by a large tree that filled the road and the same sources that have been placed by the miners as part of their protests. One of the occupants was injured slightly and the other has come out unscathed.
Marches to Madrid
Several buses traveling in the miners' wives arrive this afternoon to Madrid, from the coalfields. Its aim is to focus outside the gates of the Senate, where they are debating the State Budget. A Budget to collect a 63% cut in aid to the coal.
Some of these women are planning to enter the Senate at the time in which to proceed to voting on amendments relating to payments to mining. The Lion PP senator John Morano has already announced it will break the discipline of the party's vote position for the proposals submitted by the PSOE to defend the sector.
UGT and CCOO also plan protests again move to the capital. Yesterday announced a "black start". Depart on foot from the mining regions and run to the Ministry of Industry, but have not yet determined when. Union representatives held a meeting today to finalize the date and what their new timetable for action.
In Leon there have been cuts in the roads. In addition, a group of miners has several beams cut the railway line between the province and Asturias, in the end of Ciñera, as confirmed by the central government representatives. Renfe sources have indicated that the cut occurred around 11.30. Alvia train that had left at 10.05 am Gijon to Madrid had to stop.
Given this type of action, Fernandez Diaz noted that "the Guardia Civil and National Police are acting with great prudence." In an interview with TV3 collected by Europa Press, said that the miners have come to launch rockets and flares can even kill a person. Minister has to rely on prudence and good sense of all.
The interior minister has indicated that central government has invested billions of euros in restructuring the sector, but now there is more money. He added that the EU has set a limit to the Government of Spain and there is no more room for negotiation.
The Union of Civil Guards in the Principality for his part has today issued a statement claiming to be aware of the vital importance of mining sector in Asturias and especially in the mining regions. This organization has shown however deeply concerned by the scenes of violence accompanying the demonstrations. These situations, he adds, resulting in confronting "violent and unnecessary" between miners and law enforcement "with obvious risk to each other as well as for other citizens."
The group emphasizes that the Civil Guard officers are also workers and sorry they "deeply" having to deal with situations of violence and "fighting with workers defending their jobs and remain the industry."
